The Shaeirat (poetesses) project invites us to discover female voices from contemporary Arab poetry through four performances by the writers themselves. Organised with the complicity of Henri jules Julien, Shaeirat gives centre stage to a poetry removed from Western representations, with roots as much in political and social struggle as in the demands for recognition of unique identities.
This program focuses on two poetesses: Carol Sansour for In the time of the apricots, with Christelle Saez for the texts in French and Asmaa Azaizeh for Don’t believe me if I tell you about the war, with Haya Zaatry (singing, music) and Adam Zuabi (video) . From the many instants in the life of a woman by Carol Sansour to the concert-reading of Asmaa Azaizeh, two Palestinian women offer their vertical, uncompromising poetry.
