Presentation

Brazilian artist Carolina Bianchi and her collective Cara de Cavalo return to Avignon with A Noiva e o Boa Noite Cinderela (The Bride and Good Night Cinderella), an extreme performance that left its mark on the 2023 edition. “Good night Cinderella” is the name given in Brazil to GHB, the “date rape drug”. Searching for a fitting format to say the unspeakable—sexual violence, rape, and murder—A Noiva e o Boa Noite Cinderela begins like a lecture. But the artist turns words into action when, under the effect of the drug, she gradually slips into sleep, drawing the audience into an experience that will lead them to the very gates of hell. No point looking for catharsis in Carolina Bianchi’s work: her theatre is an art of unrest, and no one will leave unscathed.
