Presentation

For nearly forty years, Mathilde Monnier’s artistic career has been closely linked to the history of the Festival d'Avignon, where she has, over time, become the most frequently programmed artist. Invited to perform there since 1986, she has presented ten productions, the latest of which, Black Lights (based on the ARTE series H24), won the French Critics’ Grand Prix for Best Show in 2023.

In 2005, she took to the Cour d’honneur with frère&sœur, a show about generosity and sharing that seeks less to depict a family than to reflect human society and its destiny. Within the majestic setting of the courtyard, across three stages of varying sizes, these brothers and sisters, in small groups, orchestrate curious rituals and take turns composing movements that are chaotic, frenetic or slower, nuanced and subtle. With the collaboration of Stéphane Bouquet, scriptwriter, and Erikm, composer and sampler, the choreographer and her performers weave a beautiful tribute to movement.

To mark the occasion of Silence, her new creation conceived with Lucie Antunes, ARTE and the Maison Jean Vilar invite you to rediscover frère&sœur and to revisit the unique, profound and fruitful relationship that links this major figure of contemporary dance to the Festival d’Avignon.
