Asking questions: to dispel doubt or to cast doubt?

To ask a question is to seek what we do not know, to dispel doubt, to challenge the established order. But it can also mean casting doubt, even questioning what was once commonly accepted. At a time when the very notion of truth seems more fragile than ever, as fake news proliferate, should we still ask questions at the risk of weakening our democracies? A question all the more essential as some are deprived of this freedom. Why? Can we forbid asking questions?
