Created on the initiative of the Région Sud and led by the Friche la Belle de Mai in Marseille, this innovative co-production platform serves both as a tool for co-production and a support system for distribution. It brings together seven emblematic institutions committed to production: La Criée – National Drama Centre of Marseille, the Théâtre National de Nice – CDN of Nice Côte d’Azur, Les Théâtres, the Festival d’Avignon, the Festival de Marseille / Théâtre Liberté – Châteauvallon National Stage, and Anthéa Theatre in Antibes. This initiative aims to co-produce at least two large-scale productions each year and to offer them regional, national, and international visibility. Distribution is considered from the production stage and is further supported by reducing ancillary costs related to touring co-produced works across the region.
ExtraPôle: when a local authority, the Région Sud, brings together leading cultural players to better connect the production and distribution of large-scale creations. A look back and forward on a remarkable initiative within the national landscape.
