In 2008, Sudanese director Yasser Abdel Latif, while exiled in Damascus, tried to stage an adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s An Enemy of the People. Due to the constraints imposed by his producer, he ultimately had to abandon the project. Seventeen years later, Wael Kadour revisits this failure. The Syrian playwright, living in exile in France, explores the right to make mistakes and the conditions under which artists create in times of political crisis.
