A choreographic storm, danced and sung, carried by the power of the organ, peals of bells, and silence. Boris Charmatz’s first creation for the Tanztheater Wuppertal Ensemble, with performers from the Terrain company, presented here for the first time under the open sky.
The content of this page
The Tanztheater Wuppertal and the Terrain company storm the pitch of the Bagatelle stadium with a show that juxtaposes two seemingly incompatible words. Boris Charmatz exalts the indiscipline of those dancers who devour the space and brush against the audience, who come together as a group or explode into a shower of incandescent solos, their bodies resonating to the sound of the organ and bells. Initially created in the brutalist church of Neviges, Liberté Cathédrale will be performed outdoors for the first time here. This grand pagan celebration reminds us that in Greek, “church” primarily means “assembly.”
