Boris Charmatz

Boris Charmatz is a major artist in contemporary dance. Having trained at the Ecole de Danse de l’Opéra de Paris, then at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Lyon, he has spent his career inventing zones of experimentation to question the very foundations of his discipline. From 2009 to 2018, he directed the CCN de Rennes et de Bretagne, which he transformed into a Dance museum, before becoming director of the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch from 2022 to 2025. He was an associate artist of the Festival d’Avignon in 2011, where he presented enfant in the Cour d’honneur. Since 2019, he has developed Terrain to pursue his choreographic research projects both indoors and outdoors. As a collaborating artist of the Festival d’Avignon in 2024, he presented 3 shows, CERCLES, Liberté Cathédrale, and Forever (Immersion dans Café Müller de Pina Bausch)
