Silly Boy Blue

France / Created in 2023

With her bare-bones version of Transformer’s eleven songs, Silly Boy Blue proves with elegance that if you’re a songwriting genius like Lou Reed, a good song will always be a good song...

Presentation

Silly Boy Blue has been listening to Lou Reed’s Transformer her whole life. As a child with her parents, or later, when she heard “Perfect Day” again in Trainspotting and found herself brought to tears, like so many other teenagers. The idea of covering this classic produced by David Bowie and Mick Ronson immediately convinced the winner of the iNOUïS du Printemps de Bourges 2019, programmed twice in 2021, with a solo concert and a version of another legendary album, Portishead’s Dummy. Not to mention her appearance in 2022 on a Uèle Lamore song! Her creation around Transformer, with its hits, its deep cuts, its melancholy ballads and its larger-than-life orchestrations, is another challenge altogether. While she thrives in her diaphanous and romantic pop, inspired by New Wave and electronic music, here she’s chosen to take a bare-bones approach to those eleven songs and to return to the source... Transformer, released in 1972, revisited like Harvest and Ziggy Stardust as part of Trilogie 72, an homage to legendary albums in English.
