Céline's grandmother sold lace in Chatou market, in a suburb north-west of Paris. Romeo Castelluci stages an adaptation of the French writer's Voyage to the end of Night (Voyage au Bout de la Nuit) and recalls the image of his ancestor to make an immediate association with his own perception of a style of writing where modernity contributes to its sonority, it's like looking at a period of history through the technique of lace-making.
The idea of a centre is destroyed leaving an impression of human weakness in a century where the world is nothing but cacophony. The sounds incorporated in Voyage... bear the murmurs of humanity by musical machines and words that are served directly, assailing the audience nerves, and creating an extreme emotional sensation. This is a disarming play in which three circular screens, resembling a magic lantern, project some unforgettable shapes. The secret lies in the round shape representing the memory of the first image captured by Man.
