General terms and conditions of sale 2026

Tickets of the 77th edition of the Festival d'Avignon © Festival d'Avignon

These terms and conditions of sale are established on the one hand by the association de gestion du Festival d’Avignon, whose registered office is located in Avignon, Cloître Saint Louis, 20 rue Portail Boquier, and on the other hand, by any natural or legal person wishing to purchase tie-in products and/or entry rights for events organized by the said Festival.

These terms and conditions of sale are intended to define the contractual relationship between the Festival d’Avignon and the buyer, whether they are a professional or non-professional entity. The purchase of tie-in products, entry rights, and/or passes, regardless of their price, whether paid or free, implies full knowledge and unconditional acceptance of these general terms and conditions of sale by the buyer. These terms and conditions shall take precedence over any other general or specific conditions not expressly approved by the Festival d’Avignon. The Festival d’Avignon reserves the right to modify its terms of sale at any time. In such cases, the applicable conditions will be those in effect and published on the Festival d’Avignon’s website at the time of the buyer’s order.

2.1 – Entry rights

The right of entry to any Festival d'Avignon event must be justified:

  • Either by a physical ticket comprising 3 distinct parts: two stubs and the ticket body. The complete ticket, including both parts, must be presented at the check-in point to gain access to the venue.

  • Or by a dematerialised ticket, which must include the following information: first and last name or organisation name, venue, title and time of the performance, barcode or QR code, and ticket number.

A dematerialised ticket may be presented either printed on A4 paper or on a digital device (mobile phone, tablet, or computer).

Entry prices are quoted in euros inclusive of all taxes, regardless of the origin of the order.

The maximum number of entry rights sold per transaction is determined by Festival d'Avignon and may vary depending on the event and the sales channel. Information regarding the maximum number of entry rights is displayed on notices at the entrance to the box office at the Cloître Saint-Louis upon opening, and on the Festival d'Avignon website.

Carte Festival and Carte 3 clés are sold on our website, at the Festival box offices, and by telephone. These cards entitle holders to a number of discounts, both on entry rights and at the Festival shop and bookshop. Discounts apply from the date the card is obtained and are not retroactive on previously purchased entry rights or products.

Carte Festival and Carte 3 clés constitute a service and are not considered products purchased through the shop. Their refund and/or exchange terms are the same as those applicable to entry rights purchased at the box office. See 2.7.

Proof corresponding to a specific pricing category may be requested at the point of sale, when collecting tickets at the box office, or at the venue entrance. Should no proof be presented, the standard rate will apply.

Festival d'Avignon informs the public about the content of its performances, ensures an appropriate match between performance content and audience age, and notifies the public of any recording. This information is displayed at the venue entrance and on the Festival website.

2.2 – Availability and seating

Performance venues are either numbered or unnumbered, at the discretion of the Festival's management and depending on the type of event. Information as to whether a venue is numbered for a given event is available in the season programme and on the Festival d'Avignon website.

Doors open approximately 30 minutes before the start of the performance, unless artistic, technical, health, or safety constraints require the Festival to delay or bring forward audience entry.

The number of places available per performance for persons with motor disabilities requiring the use of a wheelchair in the venue is determined by the venue's safety commission.

Persons with disabilities may contact the Festival, from the opening of sales and up to the day before each performance, to request specific in-venue assistance, by e-mail at accessibilite@festival-avignon.com.

Festival d'Avignon reserves the right to carry out audiovisual recordings at any of its events, which may result in changes to audience seating arrangements. Due to the presence of photographers and audiovisual recording equipment in the venue, audience members may be photographed or filmed. Such photographs and recordings may be broadcast through any medium (press, television, internet, etc.) for any commercial, promotional, educational, informational, or heritage-related purpose of Festival d'Avignon, which each audience member acknowledges and accepts.

The presence of audiovisual recording equipment in the performance venue does not alter the service provided by the Festival. This circumstance may not be invoked as grounds for cancellation of tickets and shall not entitle any audience member to compensation or a reduction in ticket price.

 2.3 – Le paiement

Payment for entry rights and cards at the box office may be made:

  • by cash

  • by cheque (bank, postal, or traveller's cheque for international visitors) – cheques must be made payable to Festival d'Avignon, dated, and signed – cheques will no longer be accepted for telephone bookings from 1 July 2026

  • by credit or debit card

  • by holiday vouchers (chèques vacances)

Payment for entry tickets on the website festival-avignon.com is made:

  • via a secure online banking payment platform

  • by credit or debit card only, on the VISA, CARTE BLEUE, or MASTERCARD networks

  • immediately upon order confirmation by the purchaser

The security of card payments is ensured by the CB Paybox system operated by PAYBOX SERVICES. PAYBOX SERVICES holds accreditations and certifications from the GIE Cartes Bancaires, VISA, and MASTERCARD directly, as well as from private issuers and acquirers, for both its Remote Selling and Proximity Payment services (PAYBOX PROXI). PAYBOX SERVICES is PCI-DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) certified by VISA and MASTERCARD. This certification, renewed annually, guarantees a high level of security and integrity for the platform. Electronic payments are secured using SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) encryption, and are processed by Paybox.
For further details on the nature and storage of payment-related information, please visit ourData Protection of the Festival d’Avignon page.

  2.4 – Gift cards

The gift card is a means of payment that may be used to pay online, by telephone, or at the Festival d'Avignon box office only. It may be used to purchase any item from the online shop, performance tickets, and discount cards. It is valid from the date of purchase and must be used no later than 31 December 2026. The minimum value of a gift card is €30. The balance available on the gift card may be used in one or several transactions. It is possible to pay for a single order using multiple gift cards. Equally, a gift card may be used to partially settle a booking. If the value of the card is less than the total amount of the booking, the holder must pay the difference using another payment method. If the value of the card exceeds the amount of the booking, the remaining balance will be credited directly to the customer's account. This credit must be used no later than 31 December 2026. Festival d'Avignon does not guarantee the availability of tickets or pricing categories for the performance(s) chosen by the gift card holder. The gift card may not give rise to any refund, even partial. It will not be exchanged or refunded, including in the event of loss or theft. A gift card that has passed its expiry date may not give rise to any exchange, extension of validity, or refund.

  2.5 – Obtaining entry tickets

Entry rights purchased on the Festival d'Avignon website, at the box office, or by telephone (dematerialised tickets):

  • are accessible in your My Festival account

  • are available to download (PDF format)

  • are accessible in the customer's digital wallet (Google Wallet, Samsung Wallet, Apple Wallet, etc.)

  • are not sent by e-mail for reasons of confidentiality and security

  • are not sent by post due to delivery times and receipt guarantee concerns

In the event of loss or theft, any request for a duplicate may only be made at the Festival d'Avignon box office, upon presentation of a report filed with a police station.
Entry rights purchased through our partner Fnac (Fnac stores andfnacspectacles.com):

  • must be collected from Fnac stores during opening hours. Opening hours may vary between stores and are indicated on the Fnac website.

  • are not accessible at Festival d'Avignon box offices or at venue box offices

The resale of an entry right at a price higher than that shown on the front is strictly prohibited and may result in criminal penalties (Act of 27 June 1919).

2.6 – Entry control

Festival d'Avignon asks its audience members to treat its staff, artists, and fellow audience members with respect and courtesy. Any person who fails to comply with instructions given by Festival staff or who behaves in an uncivil manner towards others present at the venue may be removed from the performance space and refused entry to subsequent performances.

Audience members are advised to check the dates, times, and venues shown on their tickets. Performances begin at the time stated on the tickets.

Audience members are encouraged to allow sufficient time to pass through security and ticketing checks.

Access to the venue is only permitted upon presentation of a valid entry right and in compliance with applicable health and safety regulations.

Entry rights (regardless of format: physical or digital, printed or otherwise) are verified using barcode or QR code readers upon entry to the event for which they are valid.

Each ticket entitles the holder to one seat only. In the event that a dematerialised ticket is printed multiple times, only the first ticket scanned at the access control point will be deemed valid; any subsequently presented ticket will be automatically cancelled.

Presentation of an official photographic identity document (national identity card, passport, or residence permit) may be required at the venue access control point. Proof of eligibility for reduced-price tickets is mandatory at the venue access control point. In the event of a dispute, a venue inspector is authorised to request that the entry right be examined by a third party authorised by Festival d'Avignon.

Each audience member or visitor to an event is required to retain their entry right until they leave the event premises for good.

Five minutes before the time stated on the entry right, numbered seats are no longer guaranteed and unsettled entry rights are released for resale. Late arrival results in permanent loss of the original seat for the duration of the event, including during any interval.

Seat categorisation within the venue is determined by several criteria: visibility, sound, positioning of surtitle screens, and in some cases the specific nature of the performance. Seats located behind pillars at the Opéra are not sold. The Cour d'Honneur is equipped with a sound transmission system that allows the vast majority of audience members to enjoy first-category seating.

Late arrival does not permit entry to the venue and does not give rise to any refund or compensation of any kind whatsoever.

Any departure from the performance venue during a show is final.

2.7 – Cancellation of an Event

The cancellation or postponement of an event may be decided by Festival d'Avignon's management at its sole discretion or at the request of the relevant authorities, for any reason whatsoever (force majeure, prefectural order, artistic or technical reasons, adverse weather, national mourning, etc.).

Depending on the nature of the circumstance preventing the event, Festival d'Avignon reserves the right to offer a rescheduling solution, a refund, or an immediate alternative venue.

In the event of cancellation, entry rights will be transferred as a priority to another performance of the same event or to another event, subject to availability and the Festival calendar.

Where rescheduling is not possible, or at the purchaser's express request, refund requests must be submitted to Festival d'Avignon by the deadline communicated by the Festival via the press, by e-mail, or through its website, and no later than 30 days after the final day of the Festival d'Avignon edition. (No rescheduling or refund may be made after this deadline.)

Refunds will be processed and issued within 4 months following the end of the Festival.

For all refunds of entry rights: regardless of the payment method used at the time of purchase, refund by credit or debit card via Paybox will be the preferred method. Where necessary, the box office service will contact the holder of the entry right to arrange the refund. Only the price shown on the entry right will be refunded, excluding any additional costs of any nature (booking fees, transport, accommodation, parking, etc.).

Exception: Should a performance be cancelled after it has begun, a rescheduling or refund of the entry right may only be granted if the performance has not yet reached either the first interval or, in the absence of an interval, the halfway point. The estimated duration of each performance is stated in the season programme for all Festival d'Avignon events.

2.8 – Refund or Exchange of Entry Rights at the Audience's Request

No refund may be made at the audience's request, except in the following two exceptional circumstances: the death or hospitalisation of at least one of the holders of the entry right. In both cases, supporting documentation will be required at the box office in order to process a refund.

Refund requests will be examined on a case-by-case basis with the utmost care by our teams and processed as promptly as possible. Depending on the volume of requests, processing may take place within four months of the end of the edition.

Regardless of the reason, no refund request will be considered more than one calendar month after the end of the edition.Changes to the cast may occur after the programme has been published on the website or in print. Such changes do not give rise to any right to an exchange or refund. Refunds for entry rights issued by resellers outside Festival d'Avignon, including Fnac stores and fnacspectacle.com, are subject to those resellers' own terms and conditions of sale.

Tickets may be exchanged free of charge up to 24 hours before the performance, subject to availability, online only via our website. Exchanges are permitted for a ticket of equal or greater value than the original, with the difference to be settled by the customer. Where the new ticket is of lesser value, the difference will not be refunded

2.9 – Right of Withdrawal

In accordance with Article L. 121-20-4 of the French Consumer Code, the purchaser may not exercise a right of withdrawal in respect of leisure services (performances) to be provided on a specific date or at a defined frequency. Such services will therefore not be subject to any refund, as they are in any event identified as such to purchasers in the programme. The same applies to Carte Festival, Carte 3 clés, and gift cards.

2.10 – In-Venue Rules – Audience Charter

The purchase of an entry right implies full acceptance of the internal regulations of the event venue, as well as compliance with the Vigipirate security protocols currently in force.

Attendance at a performance implies respectful behaviour towards all persons present (audience members and Festival d'Avignon staff alike), as well as full and complete adherence to the Audience Charter.

Failure to comply may result in removal from the venue and refusal of access to other purchased performances, at the discretion of Festival d'Avignon's management.

Festival d'Avignon undertakes to implement all necessary measures to welcome its audience members safely, in accordance with applicable national protocols.

Smoking (including electronic cigarettes), eating, and drinking alcohol are prohibited in all event venues, unless otherwise specifically communicated to the public.

Photography, filming, or recording of any kind during any event held within Festival d'Avignon venues is prohibited, unless otherwise specifically authorised.

Mobile phones must be switched off in all event venues, unless otherwise specifically indicated.

Animals are not permitted, with the exception of guide dogs or assistance dogs.

2.11 – Complaints

Any complaint, of whatever nature, must be submitted in writing no later than 48 hours after the performance, by e-mail to help@festival-avignon.com.

Audience members are responsible for verifying the number of entry rights, venue, date, and time of the event at the point of purchase. No subsequent complaint will be considered.

Festival d'Avignon accepts no liability for damage of any nature that may affect personal belongings, objects, or equipment. Audience members are responsible for any direct or indirect damage they may cause during their attendance at the Festival.
