Presentation

It’s the story of Theseus, caught in the labyrinth of memory, looking for a possible future. After the suicide of his brother and the death of his parents, he finds himself literally paralysed. He leaves Paris, taking with him three boxes of archives, hoping to live with his children in a town he believes to be without memory. But he is followed by the very thing he flees. Neither autobiography nor autofiction, Thésée, sa vie nouvelle listens to the words of the elders to give a face to past events and understand the present.

Struck by the beauty of Camille de Toledo’s text, Valérie Dréville invites Guy Cassiers to bring it to the stage through theatre and video: alone in the middle of a stage covered in the author’s own archives, the actress explores the enigma of transmission, becoming a body-memory that resonates with the voices and silences of our legacies.
