France / Created in 2026 / First time in France

Halfway between a dystopian tale and a religious poem, La Parabole du Seum attempts to bring together a marginalised community to confront the coming fascism.

Presentation

The starting point of La Parabole du Seum is Fear and the necessity it creates to organise in order to survive it. For her new creation, Rébecca Chaillon –who left her mark on the 2023 edition with her Carte noire nommée désir wanted to bring together performers who live on the margins and who actively engage daily with the future and its (im)possibilities. She moves Heaven and Earth, including her home territory of Seine-Saint-Denis, to broaden the horizon of what is possible, composing a work at once astronomical and astrological which brings together text, performance, visual and sound imagery: a parable of venom and anger which seeks to spark dreams, laughter, empathy, and revolt against the coming fascism.

디스토피아적 우화와 종교적 시의 중간 지점에서, La Parabole du Seum은 다가오는 파시즘에 맞서기 위해 소외된 공동체를 하나로 집결시키고자 한다.

As a major sponsor of the FabricA du Festival d’Avignon since 2024, the Fonds AXA pour le Progrès humain , alongside Tiago Rodrigues, Director of the Festival d’Avignon, as well as AXA’s general agents and staff, reaffirms its commitment to contemporary artistic creation that promotes intercultural dialogue and engages with society.

A unique space for artistic experimentation situated at the heart of the Cité, the FabricA contributes to the influence of the contemporary arts scene by offering artists a stimulating and innovative workspace. It also serves as a powerful lever for social cohesion, fostering exchanges between communities and, through arts education, raising awareness among younger generations of careers in the performing arts.

A true bridge between culture and society, the FabricA runs workshops and residencies throughout the year for numerous associations supported by the AXA Fund. A prime example is the residency enjoyed by the Maison des Femmes d’Avignon during the 2025 edition, which concretely illustrates the role of art in fostering societal resilience.

Through this support, the Fonds AXA pour le Progrès humain reinforces its role as an incubator for artistic creation and as a committed advocate for a culture that is open, accessible and deeply inclusive.

Supported by the European Commission for an initial four-year period (2025–2028), it brings together 19 key players of the theatre scene (theatres and festivals), with the aim of supporting over 200 European artists through a programme of touring, co-productions, residencies, and mentorship.
