Since 2013, Ça va, ça va le monde! has served as a sounding board and a laboratory where writers and audience members share—often for the first time—the experience of speaking. Whether through staged readings or musical performances, language flows, brought to life by the performers. An encounter with literature from the Global South. This series of readings on RFI offers listeners the chance to discover authors from the French-speaking world whose works tell different stories. The present and current events are often at the heart of these plays, which are marked by the need to give voice to the wounds of their history: war, colonialism, corruption, and patriarchy.
Algiers, 2005. The Algerian government commissions a stage director to create a work praising the “Charter for Peace and National Reconciliation,” intended to end the civil war by granting amnesty to armed Islamist groups who renounce violence. The director and his troupe refuse to comply with this propaganda and decide instead to stage their own lives, exposing their truths about the 1990s—a period marked by terror, obscurantism, and dictatorship. The play is a mise en abyme that explores the relationships between Lyes, the director, his own life and the one he stages, between past and present, theatre and reality.
The Black Decade received the SACD Prize for Francophone Dramaturgy and is an international laureate of Quartier des Autrices et des Auteurs QD2A-TQI. Published by Éditions Passage(s).
Yacine Benyacoub is a Franco-Algerian stage director, actor and writer, born in Bab El Oued. He began in 2001 as assistant to director M. Laïd Kabouche. For about ten years, he wrote, directed and performed in most of Algeria’s National Theatres. In 2012, he moved to Paris and founded Compagnie ALTER NATIF. His work explores themes of survival and the individual across borders and eras.
