As its title indicates, the next creation of Jérôme Bel looks at the most symbolic venue of the Festival d'Avignon, the site which saw its birth in 1947 and continues to be its heartbeat: the Cour d'Honneur. For sixty-six years, the walls of the Popes' Palace have witnessed daring artistic, theatrical and choreographic productions, motivated by the audience, who have taken their seats in the stands each summer. At the invitation of Jérôme Bel, a number of them have reminisced about plays they have attended – recently for some, or several decades for others – and so have revealed to him the significance of these theatrical moments in their lives up until today. This creation of Jérôme Bel was shaped by the words of the members of these audiences and by their memories. Good or bad memories, fragments that are close to reality or somewhat reinvented, which will, as far as possible, be brought back to life in "a show by the audience about the audience." A tribute to the theater by the one element that makes it happen: the public. LP
