Set in a contemporary Amsterdam where the Nazi occupation is gradually tightening its grip, director Hagai Levi (BeTipul, The Affair) traces the inner journey of Etty Hillesum, a Dutch Jewish woman who died in Auschwitz at the age of 29. From her meeting with Julius Spier, the therapist and soon-to-be lover who encouraged her to write, to her voluntary departure for the Westerbork camp, the series powerfully recreates her spiritual transformation, which she recorded day by day in her diaries, now a publishing success. Set between past and present, this is an intense story, brought to life by the moving Julia Windischbauer.
