The emergence of new forms of restrictions and growing controversies over the legitimacy of certain works have placed increasing pressure on the conditions for artistic creation, presentation and reception, while raising fundamental questions about representation and the very status of works of art.
What characterises contemporary restrictions on freedom of artistic creation? How can historical and international comparisons help us better understand the challenges of today? What arguments are invoked to constrain or ban works of art? How do social, political and cultural contexts contribute to the strengthening of these constraints?
How can artists, programmers and presenters be better protected? How can the law, cultural policies, institutions (festivals, venues, etc.) and social protection mechanisms support and safeguard the conditions necessary for freedom of creation, presentation and reception? What new measures could be envisaged?
This forum brings together artists, researchers, cultural professionals and audiences to explore two main themes:
The changing social, political and cultural landscape, the new tensions affecting contemporary societies, and the ways in which freedom of artistic creation can be protected.
Creation as singularity and the unexpected: how can we preserve the dynamics of artistic creation and avoid the risk of stereotypes generated by external constraints on the creative process?
