Musiques, langues et luttes

An hour in Lebanon, between urban rhythms and sonic memory, a beautiful sequence where words, memory, art and commitment merge their tumults or their sonic ornaments.

  • Le printemps du rap arabe
    Révolution rap à Beyrouth
A creation by Marine Vlahovic & Hélène Servel (2014, 9mn)
Production & mix : Arnaud Forest

Once confined to the underground, Lebanese rap is now exploding in the wake of the Arab revolutions. We take a look at the hip-hop scene in Beirut, a laboratory of committed and critical music. With Edd Abbas from Fareeq el Atrash and Jaafar Touffar.

  • Le souffle de Beyrouth
Une histoire du Liban racontée par les sons
    A creation by Marine Vlahovic (2021, 39mn)
Direct by: Marine Vlahovic et Samuel Hirsch

For almost 40 years, Rana Eid has been recording the atmosphere of Beirut, her home town. She records the sounds of the civil war (1975-1990), the reconstruction, the war of 2006, the civil revolution of 2019, the explosion of the port on 4 August 2020 and finally the current collapse of Lebanon. Today, she comments on her own sound archives that tell the story of her battered country and a city that is holding its breath. A sensitive manifesto on the importance of sound in our memories.
