Artistic and cultural practices within higher education campuses act as living laboratories of citizenship: they create spaces for experimentation, give rise to hybrid artistic forms, and enable free expression in service of a diverse and pluralistic society.

Presentation

Higher education institutions are far more than academic transmission hubs; they are living laboratories of citizenship, where critical thinking is shaped. Balancing freedom and engagement, they provide everyone with the opportunity to express themselves, question the world, and build collective responses.

Artistic and cultural practices play a fundamental role in this dynamic: they create spaces for experimentation, foster free expression, diversify modes of artistic expression, and encourage the emergence of new creative forms. The work of cultural departments, student initiatives, and collaborations between artists, scientists, and educators reveal new horizons.

New alliances and spaces for collaboration are emerging between campuses and local actors, bringing together artists, scientists, students, and citizens. These initiatives give rise to hybrid artistic forms at the intersection of performing arts, visual arts, public space interventions, and living environments.

These practices also strengthen social bonds. By bringing together diverse audiences, sparking dialogue and debate, and giving space to unique and often marginalized voices, artistic and cultural action on campuses—and its outreach into the city—contributes to building a diverse and inclusive community.

Through the presentation of three student-led artistic creations and arts & sciences projects, this day of discussions and encounters will offer a valuable exchange between the public and a diverse range of speakers (emerging and established artists, scientists, students, cultural professionals, and more). It will also spotlight a new generation of artists emerging from universities.
