Through a simple yet precise gesture, as is often the case in Kubra Khademi's performances, An Inner Room reveals the secret and intimate space of Afghan women. Kubra Khademi was still a child when she first entered a hammam. From that moment on, she never ceases to be fascinated by women's bodies, which she begins to draw in secret to protect herself from beatings, from the age of 6. Drawing after drawing, she evokes childbirth, and some of her visual works draw from Persian poetry. She drawn women giving birth to horses, donkeys, and mythological animals. In this performance, she reveals what Afghan women, particularly Hazara women, carry within them. It is a performance that speaks of women who resist and struggle against the Taliban and who carry within them the hope of a better future.
