Tiziano Cruz

Argentina / Creation 2022

At once both intimate and political, Soliloquio questions the place of indigenous bodies and, more broadly, of invisibilised cultures in a world governed by the model of the coloniser.

Presentation

Soliloquio is the second part of an autobiographical trilogy by Tiziano Cruz, a scream of rage which originated with a tragic event: in 2015, his sister died at age 18 due to medical negligence. Now aware of the discrimination faced by indigenous people within the Argentine power system, the artist set out to examine the place of their bodies in a world where colonialism and supremacism are perpetuated by a neoliberal system. Tiziano Cruz’s performances are visual experiences at the crossroads between the political and the intimate. Soliloquio—a minimalist solo stage production—is based on the 58 letters he wrote to his mother during the Covid lockdown. Hailing from a region of Argentina that comprises nine communities, he works with local populations—both indigenous and migratory—for the first part of his performance, which takes place in the public space.

De un modo a la vez íntimo y político, Soliloquio se pregunta por el lugar del cuerpo indígena y, más ampliamente, el de las culturas invisibilizadas, en un mundo regido por el modelo colonizador.
