When Jan Fabre presented The Power of Theatre Follies to the public of the Venice Biennale in 1984, he set down the provocative and mythic gesture of the total artist. When he revisited the history of the theatre in the form of tableaux vivants using bodies as words, the great works of the masters of painting formed the counterparts of the stage action. A physical performance in the long term, that made a breakthrough in the theatre's illusion machinery as much as in the archaeology of the balances of power. Twenty-eight years after its premiere, Jan Fabre is reviving this show-marathon with a whole new cast. He was associate artist at the Festival d'Avignon in 2005.
