The Festival d'Avignon, on the initiative of the Rencontres Européennes, resolutely chose this year to highlight the artistic view and the idea of dialogue as the very foundation of democracy. With Guy Cassiers and Romeo Castellucci, it is a contemporary history and a concrete reflection on artistic creation in the European space that will be questioned. Their work certainly could have been achieved with the support of the European Union and the contributions of international co-producers. However, it is above all through a joint imaginary dimension, drawing material from their shows as well as from Dante or Proust, Caravaggio or Bosch, Schubert or the Sex Pistols that they are European. This knowledge of the history of the arts still serves a querying of contemporary complexity, whether it is political, social, economic or geographic.
