In the beginning there is the first of Five Books of the Old Testament: The Genesis of the Bible. There are the first two beings in the world, Adam and Eve, born out of nothing, and they have the option of sharing the universe between them. Until then, nobody, nothing has experienced "the end". Death comes by way of Cain's hand. At that moment in time, every act of creation - or indeed we could say every act - carries with it, like a dark seed, a negative charge. So, it's through Cain's eyes, full of the tragic experience of emptiness, through Cain's "no" to God, that this Genesis, in three parts over different periods of time (Beresit, Auschwitz, Abel and Cain) is represented. Kinetic, optic and acoustic technologies dilate the space and perception of sound. The actors do not play by traditional codes or "normality". A museum of dreams awakens and releases the first human beings in a plastic "abyss" of universe where the affirmation of mankind and the birth of art take place concurrently. After Giulio Cesare (Avignon 1998) and Voyage au Bout de la Nuit (Avignon 1999) that earned the Societas Raffaello Sanzio its place among the leading innovative troupes in Europe, Romeo Castellucci's new show is a long quest for that forgotten original beauty.
