Founded in 1947 by Jean Vilar, the Festival d'Avignon is one of the most important international events for contemporary performing arts. In the heart of an exceptional heritage, including the Palais des Papes, the Festival invites around forty shows, conceives readings, exhibitions, films and numerous debates. Throughout the year, the Festival offers artists' residencies, actions aimed at the public and develops tours so that its productions can be seen outside July and throughout the world.

What is the Festival d'Avignon ?
The Festival d'Avignon, created in 1947 by Jean Vilar, is 35 shows, 2 exhibitions and 25 venues (transformed into theatres for the occasion) with a programme of guest artists.
The Festival Off, created in 1966 by André Benedetto, is more than 1000 companies and artists from all horizons who take over 140 venues in the city.
The whole city is in turmoil with the rhythm of the Avignon festivals.
Each year, the guest artists are contacted and chosen by the Festival's co-programming directors. If you wish to propose a show for the Festival Off, we invite you to visit their website:festivaloffavignon.com

During the Festival, all sales stop 5 hours before the start of the show. All remaining available tickets are sold directly at the venue, 1 hour before the start of the show.
Passes are not sold at the venues, but pass holders will pay the appropriate reduced price.

Yes, tickets are sold at the venue 45 minutes before the start of each show and for the show concerned, subject to availability. Please note that it is not possible to buy cards at the venue, but reduced rates are applied to cardholders.
YCheck that you have received an email confirming your order. Be careful, it may be in your junk mail / spam folder and may arrive a few hours after your order.
You will also receive your credit card payment receipt (Paybox).
If the show time is grayed out or if the price selection does not appear, it means that it is temporarily unavailable online, so please try again later.

Yes. For your information, the resale of a ticket at an amount higher than its face value is prohibited (law of 27 June 1919 and 12 March 2012). However, if you resell it at a price lower than or equal to its face value, we cannot object.
If it is an electronic ticket, the ticket is in the QRCode.
Be aware that such a purchase is no guarantee, it may be a photocopy or an invalid ticket. You may not get into the theatre. This practice is strongly discouraged.
If it is a "thermal" (physical) ticket with a counterfoil, you do not take much risk:
If the ticket is full price, no problem.
If the ticket is at a reduced rate and you cannot benefit from it, come to the ticket office as soon as possible to pay the difference in order to be able to enter the theatre.
If the cancellation is known well before the beginning of the show: we will contact you (if we have your contact information) and will send you the modalities of postponement and/or reimbursement by email.
If the cancellation occurs on the day of the performance, there are two possibilities: if the performance has not reached either the first intermission or half of its duration, we will send you the terms of postponement and/or refund by email. After this period, no refund or exchange is possible.

The Festival d'Avignon is an independent association from the theaters and companies of the OFF. We only take care of the ticketing for the events we program.
I am going to the Festival
Plane, train, bus, bike... Information about every means of transport is available on the website in the “Prepare your trip" section.
Walking and cycling are the most practical and quickest ways. Self-service bicycles are available.
Please note that cars are not allowed to enter the city centre from 11am to 2am in July. We invite you to consult our parking map.

All maps, plans and itineraries are available on the Festival website, on the page of each venue. On the mobile application, in the "venues" section, you can create your own itineraries thanks to the geolocation. For the touring show, in order to facilitate access to the public in each of the communes, we remind you that no shuttle bus is chartered by the Festival for these shows. Think of carpooling! To find out about the terms and conditions of shows with a shuttle bus, go to the Booking page or directly from the "My purchases" area of your online account.
Shuttles are available for purchase for shows in Boulbon and Vedène. Go directly to the page of the concerned shows for all the details.
You must arrive 45 minutes before the beginning of the show. For the Cour d'honneur du Palais des Papes, the Carrière de Boulbon, the Cour du lycée Saint-Joseph and the Opéra Grand Avignon, we advise you to come 1 hour before the beginning of the show.
Shows start on time. If you arrive late, you will not be able to enter the theater or get a refund.
Access to downtown Avignon is forbidden to vehicles from 11am to 2am in July. However, it is possible to access the city center by showing a disability card. Some streets remain exclusive to pedestrians.

I am at a show venue
Here is the list of objects prohibited in the room in application of the Vigipirate plan:
large bags,
travel backpacks, suitcases,
helmets,
firearms, bladed weapons (even dummies),
any sharp object: knives, scissors, etc,
any glass or plastic bottle, any opaque container: thermos, can.
any aerosol or pressurized bottle,
toxic or chemical products,
flammable liquids,
fireworks and derivatives (firecrackers, Bengal lights, distress rockets, etc.)
Only 0.5 liter clear water bottles are allowed as well as water bottles whose content can be checked (the receptionists will ask you to drink a small quantity).
When seating is numbered: your seat is indicated on your ticket.
The halls are numbered as follows: each row is indicated by a letter (A, B, C...). Each seat has a number (even: 2, 4, 6, 8... and odd: 1, 3, 5, 7...).
Please note that seating is no longer guaranteed 5 minutes before the start of each performance.
It is forbidden to photograph, film or record all or part of the show. A message to this effect is broadcast before the beginning of each performance. However, a tolerance is granted, at the time of the bows.
Yes, however, all children must have a ticket and will not be allowed on their laps or in a sling.
However, we ask that you be careful about the content of the show, the sound level or strobe effects (please refer to the precautionary notes) and the placement.
No dress code is required.
We do not provide a locker room.
It is possible to eat at certain places, which are indicated in the program and on our website.
Please note that you cannot bring food to the shows.
Rain only affects outdoor shows. If we decide that the show cannot take place, you will be informed by email and/or text message of the terms of postponement and refund.
