To rediscover the moment of one's birth, relive the suffering sensation of coming out into the waiting world, from mother's belly. ! The idea haunts Kurt, a young man whose strange behaviour is a source of concern for his parents, reserved petty bourgeois whose apartment he shares. Kurt lives inside his obessesions and only likes his sister, Olga. A man passes by, who becomes Olga's boyfriend. Kurt can't stand him. Love between brother and sister must be stronger than anything else ! He is reborn like a fire. Incest exalts them and devours them and drives the lover mad and leaves the parents powerless to halt their childrens' revolt of passion. Will they go as far as committing a crime, as far as setting themselves on fire ? Mysterious fires light in the town, set by an unidentified arsonist. Could it be Kurt who has always loved playing with fire? The intimate burning in Kurt will not be soothed until he relives the violent moment of his birth. Face of fire is one of the "Shock" plays of new German theatre. The writing of Marius von Mayenburg (playwright at the Schaubühne with Thomas Ostermeier) is fast, violent, desperate and murderous. Lithuanian director Oskaras Korsunovas was in Avignon last year in the THEOREM programme, with his version of Maître et Marguerite by Boulgakov. Amid bric-à-brac, he sounds us a war cry directed at the family with actors who are on fire, flying from the family sofa to the sea of objects on which blows the storm of visceral wars.
