Presentation

Mathilde Monnier's pleasure is in the exploration of other worlds through dance. Miles from there her latest piece, is inspired by non-places and the spaces between gestures. The images are made rich by their very fragility, and grasp the notion of an unidentified community - place and space in an absolute state of doubt. The place, described by dance, is essentially one of movement, far removed from anything rooted. The impetus comes from a search, the search for a space that you are not necessarily meant to find, that is perpetually elusive and then regained, that is rebuilt constantly, or deconstructed - places in the process of "becoming". Mathilde Monnier marries her choreography with the invent-ive and rigorous universe of the composer Heiner Goebbels, and with the enigmatic and open poetry of Henri Michaux. All is paradox: play on words and gestures, it is a silent conversation about group movement that perhaps runs through our collective conscience - images of mass graves, and lyrical images like those of a carnival.
