Democracies

Organizer in 2007 at the Documenta of Cassel of a workshop comparing ideas between social groups (Them), the video artist Artur Zmijewski has left this "isolation laboratory" to track, in Democracies, ideological work in the field of daily life. This series of documentary films covers various genres of social and political events that he attended in Europe, Israel and the West Bank: protest marches, parades, historical reconstitutions, anti-globalization riots during the European Football Championship in Berlin, the public funeral of Jörg Haider, midnight mass in a Warsaw church... In recording the politicized public space, he makes visible the symbolic mechanisms and attributes used by the demonstrators in the quest for their identity. FB
