«When I was a child, I used to tie a handkerchief around my neck. In my pyjamas, I then jumped on my bed, pretending I was Superman. When I played football, it was in my room, where I scored the most beautiful goals in the world in front of my radio.» Massimo Furlan has gathered many of his memories and created a show out of them. Kitsch, fantasy, wit, humor, philosophy and poetry : whether he replays the football World Cup semi-final all alone and without any ball, on the grass of the Parc des Princes (as number 10), or he dons a superhero suit in (Love story) Superman, Massimo Furlan considers that the core of his work is biographical. For his next creation in Avignon, this Swiss-Italian artist wants the 1973 Eurovision contest to live again. But he will direct it almost as a single-player version.
«It is all about playing a part of our musical archive again, bringing an element of history back to the present. This evening of April 1973 had a lasting impression on me. But of course, the copy won't be the same as the original : not the same actors, not the same time, not the same context. Of course, it will deal with the link between original and copy.
