Sasha Waltz

Germany

Presentation

Her other performance, is called Zweiland, and describes the troubled and troubling ties between the former East Germany and West Germany, seen through the image of a couple divided like Siamese twins. One divided unit, represented by an ancient legendary character with two arms, four legs, one head and two stomachs. This monstrous couple (Juan Cruz and Nicola Mascia) pulls out of its mouth a tough material, like a spider's web. A third character appears and is captured by the monster when it tries to shake the monster's hand. Their meeting is one of violence and manipulation, entanglement and interdependence, a balance of power and a chain reaction.
