Par autan is the title of François Tanguy’s final creation, before he passed away in 2022. It is also the name of a wind that blows from the high seas and crosses the mountains, carrying words from Kleist, Chekhov, or Walser, along with the music of Brahms, Sibelius, or Stockhausen… The creations of the Théâtre du Radeau are delicate architectures of bodies, voices, light, and sound. They often resemble a declaration of love to the theatre – this art of the ephemeral – but are devoid of any nostalgia: there is only thought in motion, and the ongoing quest of a troupe that has carved its path with humility and determination, within a setting that is never quite finished being assembled.
The Festival d’Avignon is hosting the final two creations of the Théâtre du Radeau, offering an opportunity to reflect on the artistic vision of the company.
