Dimitris Papaioannou
A student of fine arts, Dimitris Papaioannou approaches creation via the image. First known for his paintings and drawings, he then turned to the performing arts as a director, choreographer, performer, and set, costume, and light designer. For the past thirty-five years, he has dedicated himself to the creation of scenic works on various scales, from the smallest to the largest (which culminated in his direction of the opening ceremony of the Athens Olympics in 2004). Since 2015, his shows have toured the world. Dimitris Papaioannou presented The Great Tamer at the Festival d’Avignon in 2017, and was working in 2020 on a creation for the Cour d’honneur du Palais des papes when the pandemic put a stop to his work. He created Ink over the summer of 2020, in the middle of the pandemic.
