The place

The Carrière de Boulbon is located about 15 km southwest of Avignon. This venue in the middle of nature was used by the Festival for the first time in 1985 for the staging of Mahabharata by Peter Brook. In this former quarry (carrière in French) which is no longer operated today, everything has to be set up in it, from the electricity to the stage, from the boxes to the snack bar. Numbered seats.

On performance days, the Carrière de Boulbon opens at 7.30pm and there will be food and drink available. Access to the site will be possible until 9.30pm, with the show starting at 10pm sharp.
Spectators are asked to arrive well in advance, taking into account travel time, parking and access to the site on foot.

We recommend that you wear suitable footwear for the stony access road to the site. Mosquito repellent may also be useful.

Water fountains and toilets are available on site, as well as a refreshment area and a bar.

There are 3 ways to get to the Carrière de Boulbon:

Festival shuttle bus (€9 return fare, a dedicated ticket must be purchased in advance from the Festival d'Avignon box office):

  • Departure from Avignon-Poste

  • First departure at 7.15pm, last departure at 8.15pm

By car, compulsory parking on the D35 (€19 per vehicle), signposted from the Pont d'Aramon roundabout.

For the return journey, we ask you to be careful to take the right shuttle (free inter-parking if you came by car, or the same shuttle as the outward journey to Avignon).

Around the Carrière de Boulbon, the Montagnette site suffered a major fire in 2022. As a result, smoking is strictly prohibited throughout the site, from the car park to the stands.
