Each evening, a different actor comes to play the part of Andrea Jiménez’s father. He becomes King Lear, while she is Cordelia. With this confrontation, an attempt at reparation happens, between reality and fiction.

Presentation

In this intimate version of Shakespeare’s play, Andrea Jiménez asks a different actor to join her on stage every evening to play King Lear as an echo of her own father. With this gesture, through which reality enters fiction, the director explores the possibility of forgiving the actions of an abusive parent. In this autofiction based on a classic, the stage becomes an open space where the actor is directed live and where the tragedy unfolds on the razor’s edge between theatre and performance art. In her quest for this “other” father, Andrea Jiménez creates a unique, non-reproducible gesture, inviting the audience to the reinvention of a life which, without erasing the past, allows her to imagine a different ending to the story.
