REAS is a collective work that reinvents the musical genre: the performers dance and sing about their past in prison, relive their life as fiction, and invent, through fantasy and imagination, a possible future for themselves.

Presentation

Territoires cinématographiques is a space for dialogue between the performing arts and cinema, created in collaboration with Avignon's Utopia cinemas. It's a daily gathering of film screenings, at the end of which the public meets and exchanges with theater artists, choreographers, filmmakers, activists, critics and journalists invited to the Festival d'Avignon. It's a space designed to explore the intimate relationships these guests maintain between disciplines and with the world. It's a place where we can take a closer look, both large and small, at the themes brought to the stage, the territories of the guest language, and under the plane trees of the Café des idées.

REAS

By Lola Arias // Argentina // 2023 // 1h20

Yoseli has a tattoo of the Eiffel Tower on her back and has always wanted to travel to Europe, but she was arrested at the airport for drug trafficking. Nacho is a transman who was arrested for swindling and started a rock band in jail. Gentle or rough, blonde or shaved, cis or trans, long-term inmates or newly admitted: in this hybrid musical, they all re-enact their lives in a Buenos Aires prison. REAS is a collective work that reinvents the musical genre: the performers dance and sing about their past in prison, relive their life as fiction, and invent, through fantasy and imagination, a possible future for themselves.

The screening on 8 July will be followed by a discussion with Lola Arias.
