Presentation

Through texts full of intimacy and sensuality, the anthropologist and ethnologist Françoise Héritier invites each of us to find the richness of the intimate universe that we carry within ourselves. "Whispering on the phone, watching the fire..." What are these little nothings, these thoughts, these small pleasures, these stolen minutes that make the salt of life? A poetic enumeration that retraces in fragments the author's biography, her philosophy, her essence.

Extracts from Le Sel de la vie and Au gré des jours by Françoise Héritier, published by Odile Jacob.

Françoise Héritier (1933-2017) is a French anthropologist, ethnologist and feminist. Director of studies at the EHESS, she succeeded Claude Lévi-Strauss in 1982 at the Collège de France (she inaugurated the chair of Comparative Study of African Societies) and as director of the Laboratoire d'Anthropologie Sociale where she taught until 1998. A specialist in questions relating to kinship, marriage, the family, and the links between sex and gender, her field of research has focused particularly on the study of the universal foundations of male domination.
