Molière has been raised to the status of author of the classical canon in the history of literature. Does that reflect his place in today’s world? Do we not run the risk of confining him to the erudite side of French culture, when he haunts popular cultures and creates chaos, fosters resistance, generates controversy, and remains a constant source of surprise?
