Soldier Quentin Ripoll survived the Great War. Returning to civilian life, he finds himself drawn to Africa like to a magnet. There, he'll discover colonial arrogance and become Colonel Barbaque, a demented figure raiding French trading posts, a god of war determined to defy old France.
