Petit Projet de la matière

Since January 2011, Anne-Karine Lescop has been working with16 students from the Monclar elementary school in Avignon, with the aim of transmitting them the experience of Odile Duboc's Projet de la matière. An artistic gesture the children will adopt to find their own path as well as their own score. Created in 1993, Projet de la matière holds a specific place in French dance history. This piece was created in two phases: first, the dancers' encounter with the tactile creations of the plastic artist Marie-José Pillet, then the exploration of the sensory memory of this experience. From this process appeared the score of the piece, between writing and improvisation, between bottom and surface, giving the performer a new place in the choreographer's work. Fifteen years later, Anne-Karine Lescop, who had been a dancer in Projet de la matière, wanted to transmit the emotions she had experienced and decided to adapt this unusual work for children. Now Petit projet de la matière, this choreographic moment allows them to "enter dance" through an experience that begins like a game, then becomes a genuine work of artistic creation. Water, air and fire are the three elements that enrich the children's dance, setting their imagination in motion, transforming their relationship with their body and that of their partners. Very quickly, the children express their sensations, along with the memory of everything that happened during improvisations and rehearsals. The idea here is not to exactly reproduce the original work, but to transmit a very rich creative approach that is indifferent to the age and talent of the performers. JFP
