Presentation

«When I was a child, I used to tie a handkerchief around my neck. In my pyjamas, I then jumped on my bed, pretending I was Superman. When I played football, it was in my room, where I scored the most beautiful goals in the world in front of my radio.» Massimo Furlan has gathered many of his memories and created a show out of them. Kitsch, fantasy, wit, humor, philosophy and poetry : whether he replays the football World Cup semi-final all alone and without any ball, on the grass of the Parc des Princes (as number 10), or he dons a superhero suit in (Love story) Superman, Massimo Furlan considers that the core of his work is biographical. For his next creation in Avignon, this Swiss-Italian artist wants the 1973 Eurovision contest to live again. But he will direct it almost as a single-player version.

«It is all about playing a part of our musical archive again, bringing an element of history back to the present. This evening of April 1973 had a lasting impression on me. But of course, the copy won't be the same as the original : not the same actors, not the same time, not the same context. Of course, it will deal with the link between original and copy. This link interests me particularly because it reveals much about the history of television, music, popular culture, personnal and collective memory. It is our relation to time which is at stake...»
