Presentation

Violences mixes different stories, clashes together times, spaces and figures from humanity. But we keep coming back to the same original event - the discovery, on a farm in Normandy, of a mass-grave of a “family from hell”. An inspector (Narrant), assisted by a policeman, tries to reconstruct the events that led to the murder, kidnapping, rape, infanticide and mummification of a certain Daniel Jackson... Their attempt at reconstruction is in this case a poetical work, producing jubilatory language of the representation whose tragedy is finally but a pretext. In 1991, Gabily offered the actors in his group T'chan'g Violences. He wrote the role of La Décharne, one of the two murdered sons, for Yann-Joël Collin. In 2002, Collin, with a troupe of young actors, (most of them coming from the TNS school) proposed an extraordinary human and theatrical project which he had shared with Gabily , Collin says “with him, I learned to construct the demands of my freedom as an actor and as a director. I wanted to transmit this experience, where the actor builds himself with the movement of a piece of writing, and bring out the derision which is constantly present in this play.” Yann-Joël Collin has already illuminated the nights of Avignon with his festive production of Henry IV by Shakespeare. Collin uses the unabridged text of Violences, which was the first part of a diptych, but intertwines the two parts. “For the first performance, the spectators were invited. The text passed through us, the actors, with a level of emotion which reached the public. This time, we want the audience to be an accomplice also, taking part in the reconstruction.”
