Almost four years after the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan, Afghan women are facing an even more dramatic erosion of their rights, through an organized, widespread, and systematic campaign of persecution. Step by step, they have lost the right to dress as they wish, to access education, to move freely, to speak… until they have been made invisible, even erased entirely from public space. And yet, the international community offers them only limited support. How can they survive under such conditions? How can they leave the country without strong commitments from host nations? How can we fight for Afghan women still living in the country and for those in exile?
Echoing Inside Kabul, presented this year at the Festival d’Avignon both as a podcast and an installation, this conversation will offer insights at the intersection of art and testimony. Together with Kubra Khademi, Caroline Gillet, Raha, and Shabnam Salahshoor, we will explore the reality of these women’s lives, their ongoing struggles, and their fight to be seen and heard.
