Thierry Thieû Niang

A dancer and choreographer, Thierry Thieû Niang works as much with professional artists as with amateurs, both children and adults. Whether he works with Romain Duris to put his body into play in La Nuit juste avant les forêts, co-signed this year with Patrice Chéreau, directs singers for the opera he staged with the composer Oscar Strasnoy and the writer Alberto Manguel (Un retour, 2010) or immerses himself in the daily life of autistic teenagers to create a show about them with the author Marie Depleschin and the musician Benjamin Dupé (Au bois dormant, 2008), he always expends the same energy. For him it is every time a matter of "standing together, making sense and making a sign." A lively writing, in which the words and bodies, the sounds and images weave the dramaturgy of a choreography and propose another way of looking at reality. For the last five years, Thierry Thieû Niang, with Jean-Pierre Moulères, has been working with a group of seniors from Marseilles he has introduced to dance. An experience initiated on the stage of the Merlan scène nationale in Marseilles - and now shared with La Comédie de Valence - which, depending on the season, takes on various show forms. In 2010, Thierry Thieû Niang directed Ariane Ascaride at the Festival d'Avignon for Sujets à Vif. This year, he is working with Patrice Chéreau for I Am the Wind. LP, May, 2011.
