Matthieu Bareyre

Since his debut film, Nocturnes in 2015, which was screened in competition at the Cinéma du Réel festival, Matthieu Bareyre has directed three feature-length documentaries: L’Époque in 2019, Le Journal d’une femme nwar in 2022 and 95 stories in 2026, in which he explores very different cinematic forms – direct cinema, personal accounts, voice-over, music and archive footage. Credited as editor on all his films, he places editing at the heart of his cinematic direction. In theatre, he has collaborated since the outset on the conception, writing and direction of Marion Siéfert’s productions. Together, they explore the dramatic potential of the virtual and of anticipation, and give prominence to young people’s perspectives on the world they are inheriting. They are currently developing the screenplay for a feature-length fiction film.
