Marlene Monteiro Freitas

Born in Cape Verde, Marlene Monteiro Freitas is a choreographer and dancer known for her intense, hybrid works. Her most famous creations include Guintche, Bacchantes, D’ivoire et chair, and Mal. She was awarded the Silver Lion at the Venice Biennale in 2018, as well as the Chanel Next Prize and the Evens Arts Prize in 2021. Her work boldly and innovatively explores the boundaries of contemporary dance.
