Khulood Basel

Palestinian creative producer, dramaturge and visual artist Khulood Basel was born in 1987 and studied at the University of Haifa. Since 2011, she has been working with playwright and director Bashar Murkus to combine artistic vision with independent political reflection. The duo creates original theatrical works by delving into long-term theatrical research paths, driven by a desire to raise questions about important human and political themes to audiences in Palestine and the world. Khulood Basel and Bashar Murkus co-manage the Khashabi Theatre in Haifa, which they co-founded with a group of Palestinian artists. The Khashabi Theatre is an independent Palestinian venue dedicated to working towards a society that defends creation as an inalienable right, and which sees its independence as essential to its cultural identity. This collective organisation shines a light on societal, political, and artistic taboos, while providing a crucial space for artistic support and collaboration, essential to creative freedom. They presented their plays The Museum at the Festival d’Avignon in 2021, and Milk in 2022.
