Belfast-Paris

Halfway between Bacchic dances and festive ceremony, Lady Magma invites the audience to a collective experience, a quest for the feminine.

Presentation

With Lady Magma, Oona Doherty delves into the very essence of the feminine and invites us to come along on a quest for both collective and individual identity. Whether she’s reinventing Bacchic figures or following the trail blazed by The Living Theatre in the 1970s, the Irish choreographer ceaselessly searches for states of nature while bringing the audience as close to the performers as possible. Her goal: to create a ritual, to experiment with contagious states of bodies and breathing, and to free emotions. “I like to play with the troubling feeling caused by the ceremonial aspect of a show. Here, I turn the audience into voyeurs and direct participants in the celebration to which they are invited.” Beyond the nods to those communal experiences, Lady Magma puts the sincerity of the performers and their place in a universal history of women to the test, and invites the audience to let their guard down and to get in touch with the feminine.
