From the void of a pitch-black stage appears a sheep. Stuck between heaven and earth, the fluffy, immaculate silhouette grazes among its peers. But the animal is dissatisfied with its circumstances, and aspires to a different life. A more heroic life. Determined not to remain on its four legs, the ruminant tries to rise. Is this naivety or ambition? Whatever its motivation, it defies the laws of nature and strikes a Faustian bargain. The sky darkens, the earth shudders… Thus begins our sheep’s odyssey, that of a part-animal, part-human creature who finds on its road a plethora of flamboyant characters. As its moving adventures turn tragic, FC Bergman create a wordless allegorical epic, whose power draws inspiration from the Flemish Primitives, from the beauty of the language of bodies, and from the emotions of bestiaries. The Antwerp collective gives us a modern fable which borrows its narrative from medieval morality. This unique animal tells us about ourselves, torn as it is between the fear of change and the existential desire to transcend limits. A dangerous journey into human tragedy.
