Bordeaux

In a suburban house in which four siblings are preparing to bury their parents, French History barges in in the shape of its revolutionary figures. Can we still write History?

Presentation

In a suburban house, three brothers and a sister are organising their parents’ funeral. As they’re discussing inheritance, other realities keep intruding: the outside world, the neighbourhood… and French History. Presented for the first time in its entirety, Baptiste Amann’s trilogy Territories is a seven-hour-long epic in the form of a modern tragedy, both familial and historic, in which personal drama and collective catastrophe collide. Over three days—from the day before the funeral to the day after—the revolutionary past takes over the present to enter in successive dialogues with the French Revolution, the Paris Commune, and the Algerian Revolution, and show us how its echoes are still relevant today… and to question our capacity to act.
“I belong to a so-called disenchanted generation and who, as the heir to a legacy without prestige, asks the question: can we still write History?”
