Presentation

As the dramatic events of 2015 reignited the debate between republic and democracy, where do we stand today in the field of culture? Are we, in the 21st century, cultural citizens looking for individual emancipation, or democratic subjects concerned about the common good? What about the notion of cultural democracy, which replaced the idea of democratisation, at a time when, throughout the world, the paradigm of cultural rights keeps getting louder? And what of participatory democracy, present in public policy through culture conferences and other general assemblies?
